Spescom, BT enter agreement

Johannesburg, 10 Oct 2003

BT and Spescom concluded an agreement in London this week that allows BT to reduce its contractual volume commitment for NTelite while reinforcing the relationship between the companies under an international marketing agreement.

This move will release operational funds that Spescom Limited (UK) will direct in its efforts to internationally market this product range and to sustain a development activity for new generation devices to allow Spescom to realise the full potential of the technology.

The NTelite is an intelligent electronic network terminator, deployed in customer premises, which proves whether the fault experienced by the customer is in the network or in the customer's home, resulting in operational savings for network operators as well as improved customer service.

The demands of the next-generation networks (NGN) have confirmed the need for intelligent line termination. Equipment at both ends of the network is changing quickly to keep pace with fast changing technologies.

The challenge which network operators face is how to deploy intelligent line termination in a manner that will avoid the proliferation of devices in the customers premises while providing fast accurate testing for the entire spectrum of voice and data services. The NTelite is key to solving this problem and Spescom has already commenced development of a next-generation intelligent line termination unit capable of self-installation.

The Ntelite will form a major part of Spescom's exhibit at the ITU Telecom World 2003 show being hosted in Geneva, Switzerland, later this month.
