Spescom eB favourably evaluated by independent research, consulting firm

Johannesburg, 27 Nov 2002

Spescom Software Inc, the US operation of multi-national technology innovator, Spescom, today announced that Doculabs, a Chicago-based independent research and consulting firm founded in 1993, has completed its analysis of Spescom's eB software suite.

Commenting on Spescom eB, the Doculabs analyst team said: "For information management in regulated organisations, Spescom eB is the most comprehensive, tightly integrated software suite that Doculabs has evaluated."

Spescom's flagship product eB enables organisations in a broad range of industries to create, capture, store, manage, share and distribute critical business information regarding their customers, products, assets and processes in an efficient manner. It also enables them to maintain complete, up-to-date information about their assets and infrastructures so that they can achieve operational excellence and compliance with regulatory requirements.

It provides records management functions that enable an organisation to comply with legal, regulatory, safety, audit and quality requirements for the declaration, retention, and disposition of records. eB's open and modular architecture provides flexibility, enabling organisations to implement it as needed in single departments or enterprise-wide to control implementation costs and mitigate risk.

Winning praise from Doculabs (www.doculabs.com) lends credibility to eB's capabilities and success. Doculabs is an industry-leading research and consulting firm that improves the way companies plan for, select, and optimise emerging technologies through project-based services. Its consulting services are grounded in research that combines hands-on evaluation of technology with real-time business knowledge gained from engagements with Fortune 1000 clients. Doculabs helps its clients deliver on their business strategies through solutions in areas such as enterprise content management, relationship management and infrastructure.

The Doculabs analyst team stated: "Spescom eB provides the capabilities of an integrated electronic document management solution (EDMS), but extends these capabilities to provide a collaborative environment for managing the lifecycle of physical items (eg equipment, products or assets), and the requirements (eg functional, performance, safety, environmental, legal, etc) that govern them. It then links these elements and applies industry standard configuration management rules to control the effects of change on requirements, documents and items to ensure information integrity."

The team added: "Spescom provides all of these capabilities in a tightly integrated package, through modules that can be incrementally introduced in a phased deployment to control cost and risk."

Spescom CEO, Carl Mostert, stated: "We are very excited about Doculabs' assessment of eB as it independently validates the market and product strategy we have embarked on. The eB solution provides great value to organisations in regulated industries that need to ensure strict records management and maintain conformance between requirements, assets and documentation in complex, constantly changing environments.
