Spescom eB selected by city of Dayton

Johannesburg, 09 May 2003

The US operation of JSE-listed Spescom Limited, Spescom Software Inc, today announced that the City of Dayton in Ohio has selected Spescom's eB integrated document, configuration and records (iDCR) management solution for managing all documents in its Department of Water.

As part of the contract, over 100 000 paper- and microfilm-based technical drawings will be scanned, converted into electronic images and stored in eB. The solution also enables CAD drawings generated in Microstation J to be stored in eB and seamlessly accessed from the Hansen and ESRI GIS user interfaces, with full security and version control provided by eB. The benefits of this common environment include enhanced operational efficiency, as users will be able to access relevant and accurate information more expeditiously than currently possible, improving productivity.

Spescom's eB was selected by Dayton following an extensive, competitive evaluation process that focussed on out-of-the-box functionality, architecture and security. The eB solution was selected due to its proven functionality and standard integration with ESRI's GIS application, Hansen's Work Order Management system and Bentley's Microstation J CAD system.

Steve Hill, GIS Analyst, City of Dayton, commented: "After many months of searching, we are excited to move forward with our choice of Spescom Software. The integration of Spescom's eB with our existing systems will prove to better position us within a more efficient paperless environment."

Carl Mostert, Spescom Software's CEO, commented: "This new contract demonstrates how eB can deliver and unify content from a number of applications commonly used in the local government market. We are already exploring the possibility of extending eB to other departments within the City of Dayton."

The Department of Water provides water and sewer facilities and related work through the Divisions of Water Administration, Water Distribution, Water Supply and Treatment, Sewer Maintenance, Water Engineering, Wastewater Treatment and Environmental Management. The city has two water treatment plants with a combined capacity of 192 million gallons per day. Through 764 miles of water mains, the Water Department serves over 63 000 customer accounts in Dayton proper and provides services to over 120 000 customer accounts throughout Montgomery County.
