Spescom Media IT wins exclusive agency for R40m market with Avid

Spescom Media IT, the broadcasting operation of technology innovator Spescom, has been appointed the Avid agent for all of its broadcast products in SA.

This market is estimated to be worth in excess of R40 million.

This announcement follows Avid Technology's acquisition of Pinnacle Systems. Spescom Media IT will take over full responsibility for sales and support on Pinnacle broadcast products.

According to John Aslett, general manager responsible for Avid's EMEA business, Spescom Media IT has been appointed the distributor for the complete range of Avid video products in SA, including the recently acquired Pinnacle products.

This was decided following the results of an extensive review of the South African video business. Avid's position in this market and the effect of the addition of the Pinnacle products were taken into account in the decision-making process. "We feel this will provide the best level of service for all of our existing customers, and enable us to combine our mutual resources aimed at building this business in the region."

Spescom Media IT general manager, Sean du Toit, says this has created an excellent opportunity for Spescom and opens up the market.

"Pinnacle has achieved significant success in the South African arena with its broadcast video servers and on-air graphics products. These are complementary to the Avid range of professional editing solutions.

"We are confident that the combination will allow us to provide better broadcast solutions to our clients throughout the region," concludes Du Toit.
