Spescom Software Inc, the US division of multinational Spescom Limited, has formed an alliance with one of Europe's leading engineering and construction groups, Aker Kvaerner.
Aker Kvaerner is a well established supplier of project solutions and operations services relating to environmental clean-up in the UK nuclear sector, while Spescom has a 15% share of the US market with its eB Nuclear solution set.
The alliance will deliver high quality information management solutions to the nuclear industry in the UK and Europe, and will allow nuclear plant owners and operators to comply with the stringent European regulatory standards.
With the expansion of the European Economic Union to include a further eight Eastern European countries, it is necessary for the nuclear operators in these states to enhance their processes and systems in order to comply with stringent European regulatory standards regarding safety and the environment.
"This agreement is ideal in that it allows the strong project execution and operational skills of Aker Kvaerner to be linked to the abilities which Spescom offers in the tight control and management of information," says David Rice, Engineering Services' Alliances Manager at Aker Kvaerner.
"Many plant owners and operators have suffered in the past from the lack of accurate information about their plant configuration, and we plan to deliver an approach that provides a strong return on investment," Rice says. In order for all of the functions involved in operating a nuclear plant to be managed successfully, it is essential that the physical infrastructure complies with the requirements that have been mandated by law, through standards, by regulation, or in contracts. In turn, the information that the operator must maintain regarding the plant must accurately reflect the actual physical configuration itself, and must enable the owner/operator to verify that the requirements are being satisfied.
According to Ben Martin, director of Spescom UK, the agreement provides improved regulatory compliance, reduced risk, and enhanced quality and traceability.
"This alliance gives both companies an ideal vehicle for delivering some significant benefits to the customer," concludes Martin.
