Spescom renews accreditation with Avaya

Johannesburg, 28 May 2003

Spescom, the South African-based international technology innovator, has re-established Gold Partner accreditation with Avaya for the supply of world-class call centre and converged communication solutions into all African countries south of the Sahara.

Avaya MultiVantage technology is a leading global solution and the company applies strict criteria in awarding Gold Partner status to value-added reseller companies that implement its technology for customers.

Paul Fick, MD of Spescom DataFusion, speaks about this achievement and what it means for its customers and the company: "Spescom DataFusion has been a long-standing supplier of solutions built with Avaya products and systems. This has supported our retaining Gold Partner status on the basis of new standards set by Avaya.

"The basic requirements were to qualify the staff through training and certification so that we have sufficient MultiVantage design specialists and MultiVantage implementation specialists.

"Spescom has always stressed training and competence as a core focus of our business - our significant skills base is one of our strongest differentiators. The actual qualifications needed fall into three areas where demanding examinations need to be passed. The first part of the certification process is to obtain the Avaya Certified Associate accreditation. For this the candidate has to successfully complete the Avaya Certified Associate Networking Engineer (ACA) examination and one of the relevant IP telephony online elective exams from Avaya.

"After completing the ACA accreditation the candidate can either follow the design path or the implementation path. To achieve the Avaya certified specialist communication implementation engineer (ACSCI) accreditation the candidate must write the Avaya certified specialist communication implementation engineer (ACSCI) examination and complete the IP telephony elective exam.

"To achieve the Avaya certified specialist communication design engineer (ACSCD) accreditation, the candidate must write the Avaya certified specialist communication design engineer (ACSCD) examination and complete the IP telephony elective exam."

It was necessary for Spescom DataFusion to prove its abilities in other areas as well.

"A further requirement for accreditation was to have a specified level of MultiVantage equipment spares in our inventory as well as to have demonstration capabilities available," says Fick. "This is a significant commitment in terms of the wide range of Avaya products we provide.

"Spescom is consequently certified to sell, configure, install and maintain the full range of Avaya MultiVantage products. The MultiVantage architecture has many specific advantages for our customers.

"MultiVantage technology enables customers to create logical networks to allow call centre agents to work together independent of their location. It provides consistent handling of multimedia content in networks which can be configured to allow overflow from one site to another with no interruption of service for the callers.

"The ability of Avaya media gateways to connect in a many-to-one architecture to the communication servers allows for distributed computing models, distribution of the actual call-centre agents and - above all - gives the system redundancy to achieve 'five-nines' (99.999%) reliability.

"It also includes the full range of management tools for audits, logs, tracking and control of voice and data traffic on the network.

"Spescom DataFusion has been closely involved with Avaya from the earliest days and the reconfirmation of our status as Gold Partners ensures that this will continue to deliver benefits for our customers into the future."
