Spescom Software's eB CM achieves 'Gold Standard' CMII certification

Johannesburg, 26 Oct 2001

JSE-listed ICT group, Spescom has announced that its powerful configuration management product eB CM has received Configuration Management II (CMII) certification.

eB was originally developed by Altris Software, Spescom's US subsidiary, now renamed Spescom Software.

CMII is a best-practices process standard that has been developed and implemented over a number of years by the prestigious Institute of Configuration Management (ICM) based in the US. Organisations worldwide are using the CMII principles to upgrade or implement Configuration Management practices, adopting the CMII model as their business process infrastructure and looking for CMII compliant tools.

CMII certification of eB CM signifies the capabilities of this product to deliver rapid access to accurate information in the ever-changing world of the enterprise of today. Configuration management concepts are increasingly being adopted by enterprises globally to manage their products, assets and processes by managing their requirements, including changes and assuring that conformance is maintained in each case.

eB CM was awarded the CMII certification from the Institute of Configuration Management after clearly demonstrating not only its compliance with the 23-item process automation checklist for physical item and change management, but also its powerful ability to be deployed enterprise wide for change management of business process and functional item configurations and their associated documents.

eB CM, developed and marketed by Spescom Software, is one of a few products on the global market that has been proven and can be rapidly deployed. A further major differentiator of eB CM is that it provides extensive document and records management functionality tightly integrated with the CM functionality. The benefit of this is that Spescom provides a single software suite that addresses the full spectrum of information management needs of an enterprise.

The recently released version 12.4 includes an Explorer type interface that together with Internet connectivity, greatly enhances the capability of eB deployment to enable rapid access to accurate information to every user in the enterprise.

"As configuration management moves into the mainstream, Spescom is well positioned with its eB CM product to take advantage of the market opportunities this presents," said Danie Saaiman, VP, Enterprise Solutions, Spescom Software. "Our out-of-the-box solution allows fast implementation at vastly reduced cost. It is a very powerful solution that enables the enterprise to gain control over its information even in the most complex environments. As a result, our customers can benefit from improved operational efficiency, enhanced safety, faster time to market and higher customer satisfaction. Our recent CMII certification demonstrates our focus on the methodologies, processes and models laid down by the ICM and to apply them for the benefit of our customers."
