Spescom targets R48m market

Johannesburg, 07 Aug 2006

JSE-listed Spescom announced this morning a strategic partnership between its contact centre division, Spescom DataFusion, and East African-based ICT solutions provider Computer Point.

"We have now formalised the relationship," says Paul Fick, MD of Spescom DataFusion. Spescom and Computer Point have been working together on an ad hoc basis for some years.

"There are several big opportunities - especially in the Ugandan, Kenyan and Tanzanian markets. Hopefully we can start announcing deals soon," he says.

Computer Point MD, Anil Kuruvilla, claims the Kenyan and Ugandan business process outsourcing and contact centre market alone is worth about R48 million.

"Both of these countries have implemented government initiatives aimed at ICT growth and have expressed great interest in the call centre business model," he explains.

Computer Point - which has branch offices in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Rwanda - will deploy Spescom's full range of contact centre products and services, with Spescom engineers available on-site to assist with particularly complex installations, notes Fick.

Fick is unable to comment on how much revenue the new partnership is expected to bring in, citing that Spescom is a listed company.

However, he explains "since many of Spescom's corporate customers are moving into the rest of Africa, this is an exciting move for us".

Computer Point offers a high level of skills and technical expertise, he adds.
