JSE-listed ICT group Spescom Limited today announced that its telecommunications subsidiary, Spescom Telecommunications (Pty) Ltd, has been awarded a two-year contract by Telkom as sole vendor for the supply of Free Space Optics (FSO) solutions.
According to Peter Hinks, Operations Director of Spescom Telecommunications, LightPointe FSO products, plus other applications, will be deployed in the metro access area of Telkom's network.
"The installation of FSO technology is expected to complement Telkom's existing fibre optic network facilitating the provision of fast and inexpensive broadband solutions to end-users. It will further ensconce Telkom's position as a world-class communications operator," says Hinks.
Hinks notes that this contract is testament to the growing demand for the deployment of FSO solutions.
This latest contract follows on the heels of Spescom's recent successful tender bid for Telkom's REMTEST solution contract for the provision of remote element management systems (REMS).
