Spicer appointed Dell service provider

Johannesburg, 10 Aug 1999

Spicer Specialised Services has been named as an accredited provider for Dell Computer (Pty) Ltd. In terms of the agreement, Spicer provides onsite warranty repairs and support to all Dell PCs installed at Liberty Life and Telkom, among others.

"This is an indication of how Dell`s Product and Service offering can be tailored to suit our customers` needs," says Glenn Jones, Dell SA marketing manager. The contract with Telkom, in terms of which Spicer provides a four-hour mean time to repair, was brokered by Spicer`s Shaun McLoughlin and Dell`s Okkie Esterhuizen.

Spicer supports this objective through the allocation of a service manager in the Spicer Pretoria office. "Dell has the confidence of knowing its customers enjoy improved service levels and has won new server business at Telkom as a consequence," says McLoughlin.

"We set very high standards for our Service Providers and are involved with all levels of their certification and capability with regards to supporting Dell products. This arrangement positions Spicer alongside our other leading global service partners, Wang Global and Unisys" says Jones.

Dell was utterly professional in its approach to the relationship, says McLoughlin. "Dell trained all our customer engineers countrywide before the first machine was delivered. In my 25 years of service in this industry, this was a first."
