Johannesburg, 09 Jun 2015

In a world where everything is connected, the opportunities for innovation will be limitless. But organisations need to start laying the foundations for harnessing the power of digital now, says Software AG.

The revolutionary power of digital will come under discussion at the upcoming Software AG South Africa Innovation Day, the annual 'go to' event for unveiling, discussing and showcasing new and innovative platforms, solutions and technologies. A highlight will be the unveiling of Software AG's global first Digital Business Platform, which was first showcased at CeBIT in March this year.

Speakers such as independent scenario strategist Chantell Ilbury; mentalist Gillian Gork; IDC Software and IT Services research manager Lisa Hagen; Software AG South Africa VP and country manager Mohamed Cassoojee; Software AG South Africa CTO Patrick Shields; and Software AG South Africa sales director Riaaz Jeena, will guide local enterprise leaders through the seismic shifts in business and IT; outlining new strategies to stay ahead in business.

Hot topics such as the blurring divide between the digital and physical world, the need for 'supermanoeuvrable' business processes, and the business potential for IOT, big data and analytics will come under discussion.

Mohamed Cassoojee says Software AG believes IOT will be the biggest driver of integration technology in history. IOT, along with other disruptive technologies, will force enterprises to adapt or fail, he says.

Cassoojee says traditional enterprises and public sector organisations in South Africa should be preparing now for a wave of competitors who will come to market offering innovative new services and products based on optimal use of IOT and big data analytics.

"The possibilities are endless," he points out. "Look at companies like Uber, which are already offering mass personalisation to potentially millions of customers. In future, we will increasingly see data from mobiles, sensors and wearable devices being used to offer goods and services in an unlimited number of innovative ways. Services might be offered based on a customer's location, health status or typical shopping patterns. Fraud could be curbed by knowing each customer's location and spending patterns. Maintenance costs and downtime could be reduced by predicting breakdowns before they happen. There are huge potential IOT benefits for every industry vertical. But organisations must prepare their systems now, in order to fully benefit from IOT in future," he says.

Software AG believes the first step to effectively competing in an IOT era is integration of everything - systems, services, devices, processes, business partners and data - on a digital business platform.

Software AG will elaborate on the potential of IOT for innovation, and showcase its revolutionary new Digital Business Platform, during the annual Software AG Innovation Forum for IT decision-makers and mid- to top-level business managers in Johannesburg on 23 July.
