Sprint Nextel/T-Mobile merger rumoured
Speculation of a merger between US telcos Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile was fuelled after Citigroup raised its share price rating for Sprint Nextel; citing higher possibilities of a merger, reports Cellular-News.
Citigroup analyst Michael Rollins says: “We believe the probability for a merger scenario between Sprint and T-Mobile USA, over the next 12 months, has risen to around 55%, and view any absence of progress for Sprint to improve its operations as a possible stimulus for merger and acquisition considerations.”
Separate CDMA and GSM networks are likely to converge over time as network operators move towards deploying LTE-based networks from next year. This convergence is expected to lower the upgrade costs as well as slicing into the operational cost base.
SAP outlines convergence plan
SAP has laid out a five-year plan around integrated business analytics, software packages and on-demand cloud applications, says InformationWeek.
SAP chief technology officer Vishal Sikka notes that several trends are behind SAP's strategy; including the evolution of in-memory computing and analytics, the pervasiveness of mobile users, and the overall desire of customers to deploy applications quickly.
The pervasiveness of mobile computing and social networking also have SAP developing applications and extensions, which will allow wireless users to collaborate SAP and non-SAP related data for on the fly computing.
Single core processors to be scrapped
Research by In-Stat claims single-core processors will become obsolete by 2013 even in handheld computing devices such as smartphones, states Softpedia.
With notebooks being, currently, the only mobile devices based on multi-core processors, multi-core chips, regardless of origin or manufacturer, are set to achieve widespread adoption in all mobile platforms by 2013.
Jim McGregor, In-Stat analyst, says: “While multi-core dominates in the high performance mobile computing segments, integration of graphics/multimedia acceleration favours the smartphone and mobile entertainment device segment.”
