Two new industrial grade colour product label printers from Primera of Minnesota in the US, which use high-resolution inkjet technology at high throughput speeds, are being offered to South African businesses through the Square One Solutions Group.
"The Primera LX810 and LX400 units will print labels with full colour photographs, illustrations, graphics, text and bar codes," says Philippa Dal Medico, channel manager at Square One, a JSE-listed company focused on IT-based business solutions and the distribution of printers and other specialised office equipment.
Both printers provide 4 800dpi print resolution and are ideal for short-run label requirements on bottles, cosmetics containers, boxes, cartons, tins, plant pots - the list is endless.
"Companies can use these printers to short-run proof or test labels prior to going to long-run printing, for test marketing, for contract manufacturing and for private or promotional labels on a variety of products. An ideal application is for the labelling and branding of corporate gifts, such as bottles of wine or boxed pen knives, key rings, flash drives and so on," said Dal Medico.
The LX810 will print onto a wide variety of labels or tags, including inkjet coated high-gloss, semi-gloss and matte labels. The labels can be as narrow as 3cm, as wide as 20cm and as long as 60cm. The LX400 caters for a smaller format where the maximum width is 10cm. Print speed on the LX810 is 38mm/sec for full colour and 51mm/sec for black only.
Both printers fit easily on the desktop and come with NiceLabel SE design software for Windows XP/2000 or Mac OS X V10.2 or higher. Many other graphics software programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator can also be used.
"The Primera label printers are affordable solutions for any company that has short-run label requirements, for marketing and advertising agencies, corporate gift specialists, boutique wineries or breweries and home produce suppliers for bottled jams, pickles and other goods. The cost per label is significantly lower than labels printed on litho or offset," said Dal Medico.
