Square One realignment results in Infrastructure Solutions division

Johannesburg, 30 Nov 2006

National JSE-listed IT-based business enabling solutions provider Square One Solutions Group has realigned elements of its business and power solutions divisions to focus on network-critical physical infrastructure (NCPI).

The realigned unit will be known as the Infrastructure Solutions division.

Square One Group business development executive Geoff Norman said the realignment was in line with the Square One vision of providing unified communications solutions to the ICT user marketplace.

"Our broader business solutions strategy remains centred around the build out of next-generation networks and so-called unified communications solutions. The Infrastructure Solutions division now provides uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), cabling, air conditioning, fire prevention, generator, enclosure, security and management solutions that can either be sold individually or as overall turnkey solutions. All our solutions are underpinned by our NetFlex Service Management process which ensures clients have peace of mind when it comes to service and support."

Norman added that the new focus reflected Square One's strong partnership with international data centre equipment and system manufacturer American Power Conversion (APC). Square One holds Gold Partner status with APC's southern Africa operation.

"Resilient and adaptable NCPI solutions are critical for organisations and companies reliant upon the maintenance of highly available ICT networks," said Norman.

"In recent years APC has identified emerging IT trends and developed innovative NCPI products engineered with standardised modular components that allow companies to commit to investment in data centres that will keep pace with ongoing rapid business change. NCPI is now the foundation on which IT systems are based and APC's InfraStruXure (ISX) offering is a total solution with a single line of responsibility."

APC country sales manager Neill Schreiber said companies generally adopt a "zero tolerance" approach to downtime. "Most businesses in the modern environment are highly flexible and in a state of almost constant change, which drives new IT infrastructure requirements that must be specified, designed and deployed quickly, in weeks rather than months.

"This is where the APC ISX concept, with its scalable platform, comes into its own. It can be built up on a pay-as-it-grows basis while its redundant design eliminates single points of failure. The modules are hot-swappable and are simply pulled-out and plugged-in to significantly reduce system recovery time."

Schreiber said Square One has skilled staff conversant with networking, data centres, their workings and their special needs. "We now have a Gold Partner that fully understands the solutions side of our business and is capable of implementing and maintaining a total data centre solution. Square One's countrywide footprint with operations in all major centres is also a huge advantage for us in terms of all-important customer support."
