St Bernard Software has released System Activity Manager (SAM), a support tool that allows network administrators to view system activity that led up to system or user problem on workstations and servers. The tool has been designed to help IT departments reduce problem diagnostic time and lower total cost of ownership.
SAM provides a journal of the system activity occurring on a workstation or server - such as file and application activity, registry activity, log-ons, connections and print actions. Support staff can use this information to help determine what caused a system problem, reducing frustration to network administrators and end-users by taking the guesswork out of what caused system disruption.
Dave Terespolsky, MD of local distributor Server Tools, says: "St Bernard is known for coming to the rescue of LAN administrators. They continue their commitment to making life easier for the IT professional with this new product."
By implementing SAM on workstations and servers throughout the company, IT organisations will recognise immediate benefits:
Reduces diagnostic time and maintains high availability by reducing network downtime and helping eliminate repeat problem occurrences.
Enables support staff to view remote users` systems, decreasing downtime for mobile and telecommuting employees.
Decreases support costs in large campuses by cutting travel time to problem workstations and reducing phone time.
"Based on Meta Group research, the average cost of a call to the helpdesk is more than R120," says Terespolsky. "Today, more organisations are looking for software that can help provide detailed information to helpdesk analysts and lower problem resolution time."
SAM supports Windows 95/98 desktops and Windows NT workstations and servers. It is available immediately from Server Tools.
