St Bernard Software announces SpyEXPERT, an anti-spyware solution for SMBs

Johannesburg, 17 Jun 2005

SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group and the southern African distributor for St Bernard Software, today announced the availability of the latter's SpyEXPERT, the first standalone anti-spyware software solution specifically designed to meet the needs of small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

The addition of SpyEXPERT enhances the company's mission to provide organisations with a complete strategy for spyware protection.

"The prolific amount of spyware and malware, and subsequent problems and risks associated with them, is a quickly growing threat to businesses - especially SMBs where IT resources are typically more scarce and less able to scale with the extraordinary demands and the network disruptions often associated with these programs," commented John Jones, President and CEO of St Bernard Software.

"St Bernard recognises that even though SMBs have limited resources compared to larger organisations, they still have complex and demanding security issues. The introduction of SpyEXPERT is an ideal fit to St Bernard's product family in providing an effective and unobtrusive anti-spyware solution tailored to the requirements of the SMB IT organisation."

What makes SpyEXPERT a true SMB anti-spyware solution is its ability to lower the administrative impact on IT personnel who are tasked with deploying and managing the solution. SpyEXPERT's ability to accurately and thoroughly scan and clean desktops of spyware from a centralised management console, without damaging legitimate applications, allows administrators to secure their networks from exploit while removing the administrative drain associated with desktop point solutions.

"The first time I ran a discovery on my network with SpyEXPERT, the product found critically dangerous pieces of adware/spyware on 95% of all machines," added Tom English, Director of IT, BiRite Inc. "SpyEXPERT's central management console gave me visibility to all my workstations and enabled me to precisely remove all malicious files without damaging the integrity of my network."

With this announcement, SpyEXPERT becomes a part of the most effective way to overcome spyware. Within its layered security strategy, St Bernard now combines perimeter spyware defence via its popular iPrism and ePrism appliances, with SpyEXPERT's system level scan and clean solution, for complete spyware protection. This multi-layered approach provides SMBs with a total solution to defend against spyware, with little or no effect on network resources and programs.

With St Bernard, organisations gain additional value by having a total perimeter and system-based spyware defence from one vendor, which allows them to enforce their security policy and acceptable use policy (AUP). SpyEXPERT customers also receive the following benefits:

* Removes spyware without harming applications - SpyEXPERT will identify, remove and disable any spyware found on machines throughout your network with precision remediation, without damaging legitimate or critical applications.

* Centralised management for ease of use - Install, configure and manage SpyEXPERT from a single management console including scheduling and reporting.

* Comprehensive database ensures efficiency - SpyEXPERT includes a comprehensive database that is continually updated through a variety of collaborative techniques.

* Low network impact - SpyEXPERT's small footprint and low memory requirement use a fraction of the processor load required by other solutions so network and desktop performance are not affected while SpyEXPERT does its job.
