Peregrine announced that BMC Software has agreed to purchase all of the assets and assume - substantially - all of the liabilities of Remedy, for $350 million. Remedy will, however, retain its name and will remain an independent business unit under BMC Software.
AST Enterprise Solutions Management, a business unit of the AST Group, has been a distributor of Remedy technology for the past eight years in the southern African region.
"AST ESM views the acquisition by Peregrine as an exciting, new beginning for Remedy that will allow us to move forward in serving the needs of our clients with leading service-management solutions," explains Neil Richardson of AST ESM. "AST ESM`s clients may continue to expect the continuous innovation, that they have come to expect from Remedy.
"Remedy is an established leader in the service management market and intends to extend this leadership by providing new and existing clients with innovative and enhanced solution offerings," adds Richardson. "AST ESM and Remedy will continue to combine best-of-breed technologies and services to provide solutions and capabilities that can be introduced into an organisation`s environment at the client`s pace, not ours."
Industry analysts are responding to the announcement of the acquisition of Remedy in a positive manner. They are commenting that, as a result of the acquisition, Remedy will return to the position of leader in the IT service desk market and that its clients and prospects should view this deal as providing an opportunity for continued growth of the product family.
