Staff at networking distributor SPS have bought 49% of the company from founders Dave and Colleen Shepherdson for an undisclosed sum. The transaction sees the staff take over the day-to-day running of SPS.
The new management team will be made up of current GM Buyisile Nkosi, who assumes the role of CEO, Jaco Serfontein as business development director, Kobus Veldsman as group technical director, Albert van der Bilt as the company's legal advisor, Dave Shepherdson as chairman and Colleen Shepherdson as chief financial officer.
"In almost every regard, Colleen, Buyisile, Jaco and Kobus have been running SPS," says Dave Shepherdson. "They have been instrumental in building our market presence, in fulfilling our channel requirements and keeping our customers satisfied. This is a logical evolution and I have every confidence in their ability to keep the company moving ahead."
SPS is the South African distributor of the Digi remote connectivity range of products, Caldera Linux, Tarantella middleware and connectivity, Multi-Tech international communication products and Abroad voice-over-IP. The SPS also designed the Portal product, which aided it to become the first IT company to be appointed by the Proudly South African campaign.
Nkosi says: "This is an exciting challenge for the new management team. I am proud of what we have achieved over the last two years and I have only one goal for the company: to be the very best for our channel partners and customers."
"The last four years at SPS have been eventful, to say the least," adds Shepherdson. "Now, with a strong product stable and healthy balance sheet, the company is poised for the next stage of its growth."
