Staffware CTO bestowed Marvin L. Manheim Award 2002 by Workflow Management Coalition

Johannesburg, 20 Apr 2003

Staffware, a global leader in Business Process Management (BPM), is pleased to announce that its Chief Technology Officer, Jon Pyke, has been presented the Marvin L. Manheim Award at a gala dinner celebrating the 10th anniversary of the foundation of the Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC).

The Marvin L. Manheim Award is given annually by the Workflow Management Coalition to recognise an individual for their influence, contribution, or distinguished use of workflow systems. The award is named in honour of the late Professor Marvin L. Manheim, co-founder of the Black Forest Group and also co-founder of the WfMC. The Black Forest Group, an organization comprised of senior IT executives from more than 30 global "user" companies, as well as academic institutions and consulting organizations, was instrumental in the founding of the WfMC in 1993.

"Marvin was such an important influence on me personally," said Kevin Vaughn, chairman of the Black Forest Group, and vice president of customer development at Endur, Inc. "It gives me great pleasure to honour Jon`s outstanding leadership within the workflow industry because his achievements embody the true spirit of the Manheim Award." Vaughn was a colleague and student of Dr. Manheim working with him using Cognitive Informatics for dynamic business strategy management.

For over 25 years, Jon Pyke has focused on office and workflow technology and has contributed to many key advances and its application. Pyke is a founding member and the current Chair of the Workflow Management Coalition. As well, he is Director of the Association of Information Systems Interest Group on Process Automation and Management. Pyke remains active in a number of standards bodies and committed to IT advancements that drive business level impact. He has served as Staffware`s Chief Technology Officer for over the past 11 years and is responsible for the development and continued leadership of Staffware`s cutting-edge BPM solutions including the recently launched Staffware Process Suite version 2.

Pyke has published numerous papers and delivered many speeches on a variety of subjects relating to the effective deployment of workflow technologies to improve competitiveness and organizational efficiency. Core to his vision is the conviction that the easiest way for a business to be competitive, responsive and lean is to understand and improve the structure and execution of its business processes.

"To receive this award now, when our industry is experiencing such attention, is a huge honour. At a time when IT expenditures are restricted and the focus is on better use of current assets, BPM provides the ideal solution," said Jon Pyke, Staffware Chief Technology Officer. "The WfMC and companies such as Staffware have a significant opportunity to shape the next generation of IT infrastructures. There are many people within the industry undertaking exceptional projects and helping to define new ways to advance process technology, and it is a great honour to be celebrated among them with this award."
