Standard Bank has simplified the process of applying for a current account by allowing customers to complete the application process online.
Standard Bank's move follows in the footsteps of First National Bank, which already enables customers to open accounts via online channels.
According to Standard Bank, the new facility will offer convenience through shorter online application times. Customers will be able to apply using any smart device.
Vuyo Mpako, head of digital channels and e-commerce at Standard Bank, says: "Customers can apply and get approval for, and fund a new account with an optional overdraft within a single online session - and all without setting foot in a branch. Worldwide, most banks have embraced online banking for transactions, but their customers still need to visit a branch to open a current account.
"The new service includes an enhanced user interface, reduced account application processing times, and the convenience of card delivery direct to the customer's door."
The bank says to further offer integrated digital banking, it also plans to allow applications for credit cards, loans and overdrafts online.
