STAR POS South Africa (Pty) Limited (STAR), the sole distributor in sub-Saharan Africa for the STAR Micronics range of printer products, today announced it has entered into a partnership with UK-based J2 Retail Systems (J2) for the distribution of the latter's products in sub-Saharan Africa.
The J2 group specialises in the manufacture of PC-based touch-screens, LCD touch-screen monitors and point-of-sale hardware to the retail, hospitality and leisure industries.

J2 was formed in 2002 when a group of directors led a management buy-out from a US-based company, bringing together J2 Retail Systems and Jade Communications. Some three years later, Jade was sold, leaving J2 with a thriving business designing and manufacturing touch-screen computers.
With an installed base in excess of 70 000 units, J2 has become the EPoS hardware of choice for sector leaders and growing businesses looking for unbeatable cost of ownership, a wide product range, innovation and exceptional reliability. Its users range from bakers to cinemas, and wine merchants to nightclubs.
With J2's own in-house design engineers, they build to their own specifications and can customise product to client needs and environments. This includes wired or wireless operation, thin or thick client, standalone or networked operation. Optional swipe for payment cards and operator ID checking via card swipe or biometric fingerprint recognition are available. They support both resistive and infrared touch-screen technology.
J2 are headquartered in NW England and product sales for the UK, Continental Europe and the Middle East are managed from this location. Its subsidiary operation, J2 Retail Systems Inc, based in California, covers the USA, Canada and South American markets. Its products are manufactured in the Far East under licence and to unique specification.
