StarBase Corporation, the provider of collaboration products for the creation and management of integrated code and content e-business applications, has acquired Genitor Corp, a privately held company located in Michigan.

Genitor is a provider of advanced development tools for the documentation of Web applications, workgroup collaboration, rapid object development and re-engineering. The Genitor acquisition provides technology that will accelerate Starbase`s XML-based product development. The stock-for-stock transaction is valued at $2,45 million.

Starbase will integrate Genitor`s technology and products into Starbase`s growing family of e-business application development products. Genitor`s core technology analyses Web application code and content to provide a higher level of detail and analysis than is possible with traditional tools. Genitor`s technology will become an integral part of Starbase`s XML foundation.

In addition, Genitor`s original products, Surveyor and Object Construction Suite, will be incorporated into the StarTeam family, further extending the information sharing capabilities of Starbase`s collaborative products used for the creation and management of code and content for e-business applications.

According to research by the Gartner Group, it is estimated that by year-end, 75% of Fortune 500 companies will use XML in at least one prototype application integration project, and 25% will use XML in a production application integration project. Also, Gartner estimates that during the next three years the volume of application-to-application traffic will grow 10 times faster than application-to-person traffic and, most importantly, 80% of that traffic will be in XML format by 2003.

"Companies worldwide are developing a strong and interactive e-business Web presence," says Richard Firth, chairman of local Starbase distributor MIP Holdings. "There are explosive growth opportunities for the first company that not only brings to market high-quality and scalable product solutions that integrate collaborative code and content creation, but also provides solutions that imbed deeply into complementary products from the leading e-business infrastructure companies. Starbase is set to extend its leadership position in the collaborative management of Web code and content."
