Starbase Corp, the provider of collaboration products for the creation and management of integrated code and content e-business applications, has announced Surveyor 4.5, an advanced e-business application documentation product capable of automated website generation.
At the same time Starbase has unveiled a recently generated XML-based website that demonstrates Surveyor`s technology. This website is accessible at http://www.genitor.com/links/xerces.htm. The website was automatically created using Surveyor 4.5 to analyse and document Apache`s Open Source XML parser, Xerces.
"XML is recognised as a key emerging technology standard designed to increase productivity in websites and B2B transactions," says Richard Firth, chairman of local Starbase distributor MIP Holdings. "Starbase has shown just what Surveyor can do by automatically generating this new XML-based open source Website. Surveyor`s capabilities are such that it is likely to evolve into a new industry standard for publishing source code documentation, by automatically transforming source code into fully described, meaningful, reusable and customisable components."
The generated Surveyor website presents an extensive, well organised and detailed XML library of reusable components and is available now to software professionals responsible for developing, using, supporting or documenting XML-based, open-source software. The Surveyor public website offers substantial new benefits to Web development teams by providing advanced XML code documentation in an easy-to-view and shared-component architecture that improves development productivity and quality.
The Surveyor XML website is designed to simplify the use of the open source XML library by enabling development engineers to understand the Xerces software. Visitors to the website can access a wealth of information concerning the Xerces code base, facilitating use and reuse of shared information between developers and teams. Tracking of recent coding activities is simplified within the XML library; developers can sort objects by modification time to locate the most recently modified code.
"Surveyor provides the means to view, via the Web or company intranets, all objects within the code, including structure and relationship information, thus making it possible for teams to collaborate, reuse and customise code," adds Firth. "A Surveyor website is also effective for developing test cases, and as a reference for developing end-user documentation from the actual code base."
