Starting a business? Equip your office the easy way

Johannesburg, 07 Oct 2011

With the creation of jobs considered a key factor in improving the South African economy, OKI Printing Solutions, together with the National Small Business Chamber (NSBC), is doing its bit to help break down the barriers for those looking to get into their own business.

That's because the organisations have come together to put the information and communication technology products required to set up a small office within easy reach. More than that, the Office Automation package even includes graphic design for professional stationery.

That's according to OKI Printing Solutions' Office Automation manager, Andre Gerber, who reveals that a package is being offered to all NSBC members that gives them six essential products for setting up an office for just R695 per month.

“Access to capital is probably one of the biggest limiting factors quoted by aspirant small business owners,” says Gerber. “And it is easy to see why. Equipping a home office with the necessary technology to get to work can cost upwards of R25 000.”

As a lump sum, that's a big outlay, especially in a country where access to capital or loans for start-up companies is almost impossible. “That's why we've put together a notebook, a multifunction colour printer, 3G router, ADSL router, Microsoft productivity software and free stationery design into a complete package for under R700 per month,” Gerber says.

Critically, he explains that OKI Printing Solutions' own internal finance is used. “This is by design; it takes out the hassle of trying to get funding for start-up businesspeople.”

Gerber says access to a graphic designer, who will create a corporate identity (including logo, letterheads and business card design), immediately gives the small business the profile of a professional outfit. “Small businesses have to raise their profile to stand out in a competitive market. The appearance of their stationery and documents goes a long way towards this; with design of all business documents included for one year, the business owner gets a big boost and substantial saving, as design costs can run into the thousands. These business documents can then be printed as required, in-house.”

The price point is one that is even affordable to those busy with tertiary studies, and who are looking to start their careers on their own terms. “This package is designed with one thing in mind: to make access to quality technology affordable to everyone. That, in turn, could provide the necessary stimulus for any number of successful businesses to see their start,” Gerber notes.

The package consists of:

* An ASUS Notebook X54L (15.6-inch Intel Core i3, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD);
* An OKI ES5460 Colour Multifunction (copying, printing, scanning, faxing. 20ppm in colour or 32ppm in mono);
* A Billion 3G Failover router (connects using ADSL line or 3G, with optional SIM card);
* A VKOM 301 USB 3G modem;
* Microsoft Office Home and Business Edition 2010; and
* Corporate stationery designed for free for a year.

Gerber points to the high quality components of the package, selected for their performance and reliability. “The choices of hardware in this complete office solution are made to support the requirement that every businessperson has of their equipment: it must perform when it is needed, it must provide a quality experience for the user, and it must support productivity, not hinder it.”

He says NSBC members need no longer consider information and communication technology equipment an impediment to their business aspirations. “With this Office Automation package, we'll make it happen for you - and you get the backing and technical support of a proven market player to keep your office humming.”

The Office Automation offer is valid until 30 November 2011.
