Riversoft is one of the many IT companies actively involved in getting companies back online following the terror attacks on the World Trade Centre.
This is according to the infrastructure management solutions provider`s CEO, Phil Tee, who was in SA recently to meet with Dimension Data, which has signed up as a Riversoft reseller.
"Deutsche Bank, which is one of our clients, ran its network from the South Tower of the World Trade Centre. Our solutions are now being used to piece together an overall picture of the state of its IT infrastructure and facilitate its disaster recovery operations," says Tee.
Riversoft`s solutions enable service providers and enterprises to scale their networks, automatically and rapidly isolate root-causes of network failures, minimise downtime and reduce corporates` dependence on highly skilled network management personnel.
Launched on Valentine`s Day in 1997 and headquartered in San Francisco, Riversoft listed on the London Stock Exchange in December last year and now has about 70 customers worldwide.
Its technology has two primary components: Riversoft Network Management Operating System (NMOS) and Riversoft Fault Manager. NMOS is a platform that provides accurate discovery and status monitoring network technologies. Fault Manager uses the topology information provided by NMOS to isolate the root-causes of network problems.
With the deployment of the NMOS platform, Riversoft is able to sell its Fault Manager application on top of NMOS, similar to how Microsoft sells its applications on top of its OS platform. It is now in the initial design and concept phases of developing additional applications that will also complement the NMOS platform.
According to Tee, a recent report by industry research firm IDC showed that Riversoft solutions allow service providers and enterprises to execute operational change faster and for less cost. In addition, he says, Riversoft increases network availability and reduces total cost of network ownership, saving customers an average of about $4.5 million annually.
Riversoft will focus on the telco and ISP markets in SA through its Sub-Saharan distributor, Interventionless Network Management Solutions (INMS), a local network solutions provider.
Says INMS MD John Rogers: "If the two initial local deals currently under discussion come off, the revenue stream they deliver in their second year could amount to about 5% of Riversoft`s current annual income."
