Stimulus Package includes green solutions

Two areas of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act may yield some green computing dollars, says Environmental Leader.

More than $4.5 billion (R44.9 billion) will be used for renovation and repairs to General Services Administration federal buildings, and $6.3 billion (R62.9 billion) to help state and local governments make energy efficiency and carbon reduction investments.

The first sum includes $4 million (R39.9 million) for the office of federal high-performance green buildings. The Energy Independence and Act requires, among other things, that federal agencies employ the most energy-efficient designs, systems, equipment and controls that are life cycle cost-effective when replacing, renovating or expanding space or equipment.

Businesses tame recession with green tech

Companies in Europe are installing green technology in their centres to reduce operating costs during the recession, reports Comms Express.

DatacenterDynamics Research Group's latest report (Data Centre Investment and Infrastructure Trends 2007-09) says data centre operators are using low-powered microprocessors in their server racks and server cabinets in an effort to reduce electricity bills.

The report, which included responses from 287 businesses working in the server cabinets, server racks and data centre sector, also claimed the debate about cooling and energy efficiency was shifting.

D-Link is lauded for green policies

D-Link has been named a finalist in the Consumer Electronics Association's annual Mark of Excellence Awards for its green technology policies, states AME Info.

The Mark of Excellence Awards programme recognises the best in home electronics products, services, and installed technology. Each year, manufacturers, distributors, and systems integrators compete in various award categories for this honour.

The award for 'Best green product, service, or corporate policy' recognises a manufacturer for a green product or practice that best saves energy or natural resources, or a service or corporate which promotes environmentally-friendly practices.
