Storage energy costs to level off
International Data Corporation (IDC) has found that costs to power and cool enterprise storage worldwide are likely to level off by 2014, reports CIOL.
The temporary plateau in storage power and cooling costs will be brought about by the migration to smaller, more energy efficient enterprise-class hard disk drives, greater utilisation of existing storage capacity; and adoption of solid state drives.
"There is no doubt that the economic straits of 2008 and 2009 modified the attitudes and behaviours of IT managers and original equipment manufacturers, greatly accelerating interest in and the adoption of more cost-efficient storage strategies," says David Reinsel, group vice-president, IDC storage systems.
