Storage managers lead IT governance
No company wants to get dragged into a lengthy e-discovery process or be penalised for avoiding government compliance regulations, says Search Storage.
That's why IT governance, which focuses on the performance and risk management of IT systems, is so important. And it's not just the CIO's responsibility; storage managers must also develop and execute on a good IT governance programme, and educate users as well.
Barclay Blair, director and practice lead at Forensics Consulting Solutions' information governance division, says storage managers play a critical role because they're the only ones that understand the technology and the architecture, so they have to educate the lawyers and business owners on what's practical in the storage environment when it comes to crafting policy.
State steps up e- governance
Karnataka, an exporter of IT services, has stepped up efforts to adopt IT in governance on a large scale, reports Business Standard.
The government has initiated several steps to deliver more services electronically to citizens in urban and rural areas, governor Bhardwaj says.
An initiative, which involves setting up a call centre to receive requests on the Right to Information (RTI) Act, is receiving attention. The call centre will handle requests of citizens for information and filing applications under the RTI Act.
ETRM users plan new systems
Some 67% of respondents to Energy Risk's 2010 Software Survey say they will be investing in new energy trading risk management (ETRM) systems this year, says Risk.net.
They will be doing so to tackle dissatisfaction with the speed and usability of existing software systems, as well as regulatory changes and the development of new markets.
“Uncertainty around the regulatory environment has been a significant factor influencing how clients think about deploying ETRM systems for long-term success," says Baris Ertan, principal of ETRM consulting at the Structure Group. "Inability to respond to regulatory changes can be crippling to clients who have rigid platforms or are in limbo on a major system overhaul."
