Storage vendors haven't been able to completely escape the financial storm threatening the global economy, according to surveys by financial analysts, states Internetnews.

Pacific Growth Equities and RW Baird have released their quarterly IT industry overviews, and both surveys found signs of slowing in the third quarter and considerable uncertainty heading into the fourth quarter.

The survey concluded that though storage remains the strongest area of IT spending, 41% of respondents were below plan in the third quarter, 41% were on plan, and 18% were above plan.

Amazon.com said it would cut storage prices on its S3 Web for companies with more than 50TB of , reports InformationWeek.

From 1 November, companies storing from 50TB to 100TB will pay 14 cents per gigabyte in the US and 17 cents per gigabyte in the European Union.

Amazon hopes this move will help it to remain competitive against emerging cloud storage companies.
