Store deploys Microsoft SQL Server
[EMBEDDEDFlorida-based Stein Mart, a large department store chain, has selected Microsoft SQL Server 2008 built on a HP technology platform for faster data reporting and new analysis capabilities, according to TMCNet.
After looking at technologies from Oracle, Netezza and Microsoft, the company decided on a new Microsoft solution based on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise database software, Microsoft said.
IEWY News says Stein Mart chose Microsoft SQL Server 2008 as the centrepiece of its new mission critical platform and subsequent business intelligence solution.
“We had significant latency issues with our previous business intelligence solution. Having immediate access to sales figures, fluctuations in inventory and other data is critical for executive planning sessions,” says Ilan Wajsman, director of IT for Stein Mart.
The company says it is now using the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 for responsive forecasting to identify business trends and to reduce the time for data processing sales reports from about 14 hours to as few as three hours, reports Business Journal.
