Storm, the telecommunications company offering voice and data solutions for businesses, has reacted to recent price hikes in the cellular market by re-packaging Storm Cellular.
Storm Cellular reduces the costs of making cellular calls from the office for Storm's customers. Two new packages have been introduced to Storm's customers, providing them with an alternative to Telkom and traditional cellular rates.
Storm Cellular is based on fixed-cellular technology that provides customers with reduced phone costs by converting landline to cellular calls into cell to cell calls, over the cellular network. Service providers of MTN and Vodacom have been providing this technology to corporate clients for some time.
As from 1 October 2001, MTN and Vodacom tariffs for calls to cellular phones increased to R1.23 and R1.24 per minute respectively, providing narrower savings to Telkom's charge of R1.40 per minute.
However, customers signing up for Storm Cellular have two options. Flat110, charges R1.10 per minute, and is based on a two-year contract guaranteeing a 21% saving over Telkom. Flat99, charges 99 cents per minute, and is based on a five-year contract, guaranteeing a 29% saving over Telkom.
Storm Cellular also includes a popular cellular callback feature, where cellular numbers can be programmed into the Storm Cellular unit so that, when an employee calls the office, the line automatically disconnects and calls the cellular phone back, on Storm Cellular rates.
Tim Parsonson, a director at storm, says: "The introduction of storm's cellular packages provides storm's customers with guaranteed cost savings on their cellular bills, in a climate of recent price increases in the cellular market. All contracts include a two-month no commitment trial period."

Storm was incorporated as a South African limited company in December 1998. The business launched in Cape Town in June 1999. Storm is challenging the telecommunications status quo in SA.
The company provides over 2 000 businesses with a range of high quality, low-cost alternatives to existing providers of voice and data communication, reducing the cost of their phone, fax and Internet access bills. Storm lowers the cost of international calls for businesses using callback technology. Additionally, storm has services which lower the cost of calls to cellular phones, utilising cellular least cost routing technology. With the acquisition of ITI's ISP business in 2000, Storm offers a full range of Internet access, SMS, Web and data hosting services.
With its IP infrastructure and expertise, storm is positioned to offer converged voice and data services on one network, once deregulation of the local telecommunications market takes place.
