When it comes to collaboration in the modern workplace, factors such as mobility and flexibility would likely spring to mind. South African organisations are quickly realising the power that these influences have in aiding staff productivity, particularly for the millennial worker - the most technologically-driven of the workforce.

An increasing percentage of modern workers are either partly or fully remote, and therefore require always-on access to systems and information in real-time, from any device and any location.

As technology continues to advance and more workers become 'remotely enabled' in this manner, we start to experience a new era of enterprise mobility: enhanced collaboration.

One platform for meetings and voice

Entering this era of enhanced collaboration, Microsoft recently added Cloud PBX to its Office 365 offering. As Microsoft describes it, Office 365 is now "one platform for meetings and voice". This new solution makes it possible for businesses of all sizes to integrate with Office 365 in branch and remote offices and eliminate the installation and maintenance of traditional business phone systems.

The obvious economic advantages to a solution like this include reduced capital expenses, moving from capex to opex and predictable per-user monthly fees, to name a few. From a strategic standpoint, advantages in terms of scale, consistency across a network of locations and the ease of adding innovations and technologies that emerge in the future are factors worth considering.

Locally, what does this look like?

On the local front, StorTech has introduced StorTech Voice in the Cloud - the first successfully launched Skype Operations-aligned offer in South Africa by a local systems integrator. This ties in timeously with Microsoft's recent announcement to bring its data centres to South African shores, proving its clear intention to expand its footprint in Africa.

"Being the first systems integrator in the country to successfully launch a Skype Operations-aligned offer like StorTech Voice in the Cloud proves StorTech's understanding of the Microsoft answer to clients' digital transformation journey and demonstrates the ability to execute utilising the Skype Operations Framework," says Morne Laubscher, Microsoft Practice Lead at StorTech.

An added competitive edge in providing businesses with an end-to-end Voice in the Cloud solution is the fact that StorTech is a subsidiary of telecommunications leader Vodacom. Also, being the single point of contact for all collaboration and connectivity requirements is what gives StorTech the edge over its competitors.

In today's digital age, it is vital for companies to equip their employees with advanced communication technology that makes collaboration and productivity on multiple devices a seamless process.
