Streaming news to the trading desk comes of age

Johannesburg, 24 Nov 2003

Graphic Image Technologies and Optibase are pleased to announce the release of their new player application: the Optibase Player is an MPEG- 1 and MPEG- 2 player for Windows-based desktops.

Optibase Player automatically shows you which video streams are currently being streamed across a network, as well as the video files that are stored on your local computer. It allows you to select broadcast channels from a list of available material.

It is optimised for low-latency (low delay) and is designed to operate in a shared environment. By synchronising all audio feeds across different desktop PCs, it removes the "echo" generated when the played out streams are slightly out of synch. In addition, it has been optimised to ensure that ticker feeds on the bottom of news broadcasts do not irritate the viewer.

"Traditionally, after watching news on a PC for approximately 40 minutes, the viewer struggles with eye strain. The new player takes care of this irritating problem by de-interlacing the video, making video streamed to the desktop a viable option," says Mark Chertkow, MD of Graphic Image Technologies.

By integrating the MGW2000e with the Optibase player, companies are able to stream content to the desktop efficiently and effectively, be it news, business TV or the rugby.
