Less than eight months after its launch, Striata's New York-based business Striata, Inc has landed its second major customer. The American Bible Society has chosen Striata's Document+ solution for the delivery of sensitive documentation by e-mail.
Striata Inc COO, Garin Toren, provides the context: "Sending important documentation via normal e-mail is a very real security risk. Companies are freely using e-mail to send and receive sensitive and confidential information without realising the dangers. E-mail can be intercepted, rerouted, copied, changed or even deleted en route."
In light of these risks, Toren observes that more and more companies are looking at secured e-mail as an important application for reducing security risks associated with electronic document delivery.
Target documents include contracts, financial information, personal, medical and other customer information which, according to Toren, should only be delivered by e-mail if they are secured.
"There is a feeling of anonymity when it comes to e-mail, which has created a false sense of security with respect to the confidentiality of the medium. Secure e-mail gives one the ability to send these types of documents quickly and confidentially, resulting in meaningful cost and time savings," he adds.
Toren identifies trust and security as key elements to mitigate the risks of accidental or fraudulent exposure of confidential information. He also sees potential damage to brand equity as a key point of consideration for companies that do not secure their documents when interacting by e-mail.
Says Toren: "A company that can authenticate and secure the delivery of such documentation via e-mail has a strong competitive advantage, and the opportunity to entrench its relationships with customers, partners and suppliers."
In addition to peace of mind, Toren sees Striata's Document+ solution as providing additional benefits. These include lowering document delivery costs, speeding up delivery times and providing better control over sensitive documentation.
According the Nick Garbidakis, CTO of the American Bible Society: "The Striata Document+ secure e-mail solution met our requirements for a cost-effective, rapidly deployed ASP solution, which does not impact our day to day e-mail activities. Striata was able to implement the solution and train our personnel in less than three weeks."
