Striata cuts bandwidth costs with RackSpace

Johannesburg, 21 Nov 2003

Striata, a leading provider of software solutions in electronic bill presentment and payment (EBPP) and multi-channel messaging, has signed an agreement with RackSpace to host its messaging application platform, radically reducing bandwidth costs and improving service levels.

"Striata is SA's largest delivery vehicle of emails on behalf of our customers," explains Striata CEO, Mike Wright.

"Where we are tasked by our customers to deliver mail internationally, time and cost become critical elements. We found that the infrastructure in SA, particularly bandwidth, was a problem due to its high cost and limited capacity. We took the decision to look internationally to source a cost-effective solution," says Wright.

While searching the Internet, Wright came across RackSpace Managed Hosting. "I liked the Rackspace model. The fact that they are totally committed to managed hosting and 'fanatical support' rather than claiming to be all things to all people by offering a wide range of other services and frills, is very appealing to us. They are a focused organisation.

"We literally dropped them an e-mail outlining our requirements, and within a day we had negotiated a contract with them and were up and running on a new US-based server," he says.

"Reliability is key to Striata's success and one of the major benefits that we have experienced since their appointment. In our business we need to know that if something goes wrong with the system, that it can be fixed and back online in 30 minutes or less."

Wright has no hesitation in making it clear that the decision to partner with Rackspace in the managed hosting arena was one of best business moves made by Striata.

"Within the first six months of moving across to the Rackspace server, Striata had sent out over 10 million e-mail messages. During this period, the server has peaked at 500 000 messages an hour being delivered.

"This performance, which can be attributed to the reliability of the Rackspace servers and the company's access to bandwidth, has helped Striata lift service levels to our customers," concludes Wright.
