Structured Connectivity Solutions Central is an enterprise-class management application and platform that centralizes management and monitoring of Structured Connectivity Solutions network monitoring appliances. Structured Connectivity Solutions Centrals grouping, viewing, graphing and administration tools increase the functionality and simplify the process of managing Structured Connectivity Solutions monitoring appliances. Users can monitor the Structured Connectivity Solutions appliances through a number of views, including map, table, graph, report and alert views. With the map view, users can arrange icons representing the Structured Connectivity Solutions appliances to mirror the physical layout of a server room, data centre or geographic region. An out-of-threshold condition is indicated when an icon label changes colour. The alerts view makes it easy to retrieve alarms by date/time and appliance. Users are able to generate graphs and reports for any combination of appliances and configure large numbers of appliances simultaneously. Powerful capabilities available through Structured Connectivity Solutions Central convert environment and device data gathered by the Structured Connectivity Solutions System into actionable information. With this data, IT executives can maximize their investment in equipment and facilities, track and record user access, and better plan for new deployments.
Structured Connectivity Solutions Central Features
Structured Connectivity Solutions Central is a software product that provides a complete system for a customer to manage and monitor all their Structured Connectivity Solutions appliances through a complete, integrated interface. Organizations are able to monitor the status of their IT environments-remote server rooms and wiring closets and the "micro-environment" within cabinets in the data enter.
Structured Connectivity Solutions Central works with logical groups of Structured Connectivity Solutions appliances that are dynamic and automatically updated. Operations and configuration of Structured Connectivity Solutions appliances can be performed individually or on an entire group at once.
Map and Table Views:
The Map View interface presents the user with a grid background which contains icons representing WallBotz, RackBotz, and Structured Connectivity Solutions Central appliances.
If a particular group is selected, then only the icons within that group are displayed. The user can rearrange icons to represent the physical layout of server rooms, data centres, or a geographic region. The grid background can be replaced with other images, for instance a map of a state or country, by importing an image. If a sensor reading for an appliance goes outside of its threshold values, the address label will turn red. Pausing the mouse over an icon in Map View causes the current sensor readings for that appliance to be displayed in a pop-up bubble.
A Table View interface also is provided. A table shows all current sensor data for appliances in the selected group. The information is displayed in an easy-to-read table format, with red fields indicating sensors that are in an alert state. Columns can be sorted, and once a sort has been set, it will continue to be dynamically updated.
From either Map or Table View, the user can open a window for any appliance that displays current sensor readings, an image from the appliance camera, and status of network equipment at the site (if Advanced Device Crawlers software is installed on the appliance). While the window is open, all readings and the image will be continually refreshed at the interval that has been set on the appliance. If desired, the user can view just the current camera images from one or more appliances. With an open image window, a zoom feature is available by dragging the mouse to form a box around a portion of the image window, then selecting 'Zoom In'. The image window will then display the zoomed image. Images can be saved in either JPG or BMP format.
Alerts View:
The Alerts View of Structured Connectivity Solutions Central provides quick access to current and past sensor alerts. The user can review alert posts by group, appliance, and date. The Alerts View shows picture and non-picture alert posts that are stored on the Structured Connectivity Solutions Central server for each appliance in the selected group.
Trend Graphs and Reports: Structured Connectivity Solutions Central lets customers generate graphs to display sensor data for one or multiple specified appliances. The user can choose the time/date range with a calendar control display and view the entire range or a day, week, or month at a time. These controls also allow dynamically changing which appliance sensor is displayed on the graph. If the user wants to see part of the graph in more detail, he can drag the mouse around that portion of the graph, then select "Detach in window" and the more detailed graph appears in a new window. Graphs can be saved in JPG and BMP format for use in reports or presentations, or the underlying data can be exported directly from the graph view.
Report controls work similarly to those for graphing. The returned data appears in a table view. Data about multiple appliances can be combined into a single report to simplify data collation, collection, and comparison. The data from the report (or from a selected area of the report) can be exported as a comma-separated value (CSV) text file for use in other applications. The Reports function also can generate alert event reports for a specified time period, by alert type or appliance locations or both.
User Administration:
Structured Connectivity Solutions Central provides a high degree of control over user access and privileges, so that you can equip each user with sufficient capability to get their job done. For each user account, detailed controls allow specification of what appliance groups can be accessed and exactly which tasks may be executed by the user on appliances within the permitted groups. User interface characteristics 3/4 such as color schemes, whether IP address or appliance location is displayed, and more 3/4 can be customized to the individual user.
Discovery and Groups:
Structured Connectivity Solutions Central can automatically search a user-specified IP address range on your network for Structured Connectivity Solutions appliances. Discovery operations can be scheduled to occur at a specific time on one or multiple days each week. Groups of monitoring appliances within Structured Connectivity Solutions Central can be defined according to IP address, appliance type, location, or a combination of these values. Groups set up this way are called dynamic groups and newly discovered appliances are automatically to these groups when the appliance attributes fit within the group criteria. Static groups, which change only when appliances are manually added or deleted, also can be created.
System Maintenance:
Structured Connectivity Solutions Central has built-in facilities to monitor and manage disk space use, to backup and restore the Structured Connectivity Solutions Central database to a remote network-attached storage system, and to power cycle or power down the Structured Connectivity Solutions Central server appliance. The View Server Log facility lets you review the complete log or view only specific types of events, for instance changes to appliance configurations.
Structured Connectivity Solutions Central Remote Database Support utilizes production DBMS such as Oracle 9i and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 to host the Structured Connectivity Solutions Central database. Benefits include integrating Structured Connectivity Solutions Central into existing database administration procedures, such as backup, and taking advantage of high-end storage technologies (e.g. RAID, SAN) on which the production databases reside.
Structured Connectivity Solutions Central Benefits
Provides advance warning of equipment failure. Structured Connectivity Solutions Central combines with Structured Connectivity Solutions monitoring appliances to alert you immediately when environment or equipment problems materialize at any of your sites. In Map View, icon labels change colour to indicate that a threshold has been exceeded. You can quickly go to Alerts View and look at the alert detail. The bottom line is that you're able to prevent problems instead of reacting after systems go out.
Reduces downtime costs; Increases system availability. Because Structured Connectivity Solutions Central enables you to prevent outages, consequences such as lost productivity and lost revenue are avoided.
Graphing, reporting, exporting tools make it easy to analyze trends and assist in planning. The rich graphing capabilities of Structured Connectivity Solutions Central let you compare different sites and time periods. Data can be exported easily to other applications, such as spreadsheets and report generators.
Promptly deal with unauthorized accesses to equipment. Access alerts can be triggered when a door is opened or when motion is detected. As with environment alerts, the icon label in Map View indicates the alert, and you can quickly switch to Alerts View to look at the alert detail, including pictures.
Centralized tool improves monitoring efficiency, IT users more productive. Structured Connectivity Solutions Central makes it possible to efficiently monitor environment factors and physical access for large numbers of IT locations. Configuration changes can be made to multiple monitoring appliances simultaneously. Each user can be limited to the privileges appropriate to his or her role.
Straightforward implementation and administration; Low overhead costs. Structured Connectivity Solutions Central is delivered pre-integrated on a 1U server. Once connected to your network, Structured Connectivity Solutions Central can auto-discover Structured Connectivity Solutions monitoring appliances, which can then be automatically placed into dynamic groups. Disk space management is automated according to criteria you specify, as is database backup.
