Studios, theatres in digital deal
Walt Disney, Paramount, Twentieth Century Fox and Universal are expected to announce a long-sought $1.1 billion digital cinema deal that Hollywood hopes will boost attendance, cut costs and enable more 3-D viewing, sources close to the deal said on Thursday, reports Reuters.
The studios declined to comment, but sources with knowledge of the talks said the deal to help co-finance the upgrade for a group of movie chains was virtually complete, with an announcement expected within days or weeks.
Long delayed by debate over who should pay for the system, digital cinema offers a potential solution to declining movie attendance at a lower ongoing cost.
Sharp's, Apex merge
Two of Calgary's long-serving audio visual stalwarts have joined forces in a merger that brings Apex AVSI and Sharp's Audio Visual Services together under the name of Sharp's Audio Visual, says Calgary Herald.
Gregg Nelson, currently president and CEO of Sharp's, is retiring from the day-to-day operations and has taken on the role of executive chairman of the new company.
Jeff Faber becomes president and CEO of the newly merged entity. Joining him at the executive table are Tim St. Louis, vice-president of sales and marketing, and Andrew Searby, CFO, both from Apex, James Sealy, vice-president of operations, Kelly Nelson, director of strategic change, and David Glass, director of sales, from the Sharp's team.
Marriott Marquis selects AAVC
The New York Marriott Marquis has selected American Audio Visual Center (AAVC), as their partner for audio-visual, multimedia production and technical services, says PRWeb.
AAVC will keep an extensive inventory of the latest in audio, video and lighting technology on the property. In addition to their extensive inventory, the AAVC on-site staff will be comprised of a highly experienced technical team for turn-key meetings, presentations and show services.
"We are very excited to be working with AAVC," says Erik Palmer, director of event management at the New York Marriott Marquis. "We know they have a fine reputation in the audiovisual industry and that their commitment to service will complement Marriott's recognised high standard of guest service in the hospitality industry."
