Sun says the second Beta release of Java SE 6 technology is now available and developers are encouraged to begin their transition to Java SE 6 platform.

Scheduled for final release towards the end of 2006, the Java SE 6 platform is the result of an industry-wide development effort that involves open review, weekly builds and extensive collaboration between Sun engineers and over 330 external developers.

LAMP gets easier

ActiveGrid has released an update to its toolset, which aims to bring Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Python/Perl (LAMP) development closer to Java, reports News.Com.

According to the report, ActiveGrid Studio 2.0 and ActiveGrid Server 2.0 update the Jython project to have Python applications run on the Java virtual machine. ActiveGrid says the aim of the move is to make the company`s LAMP applications easier to deploy.

The new releases mean that instead of installing a new Linux server with the Apache Web server, MySQL and the Python runtime, companies can deploy a new ActiveGrid application on an existing Java application server. The ActiveGrid can now run inside a Java container, such as Tomcat.
