Sun appoints regional boss

Johannesburg, 23 Sep 2002

Stefano Mattiello, former MD of Sun Microsystems, has been elevated to the same position for the organisation's sub-Saharan Africa region, which involves 43 countries.

"It is a logical move as it is easier to Africa logistically from SA than from Europe," says Mattiello.

"We have developed business strategies that have been rolled out in the whole Europe, Middle East and Africa region and in other parts of the world. Sun SA puts the business vision to practice."

Mattiello has been credited with strengthening the company's position and growing its market share substantially since becoming managing director of Sun Microsystems South Africa two years ago.

Although Mattiello has taken over sub-Saharan Africa, there will still be regional managers responsible for the 43 countries in the region.

"Countries in the region will also find that conducting business and obtaining support and products will be much easier, as we all now fall in the same time zone."
