Sun Microsystems has boosted the performance of its UltraSPARC IV processor-based server family with the introduction of the new UltraSPARC IV 1.35GHz processor. This gives users over twice the throughput at 34% better price/performance when compared to the fastest UltraSPARC III systems.
"The new architecture helps deliver investment protection, deployment agility and improved risk management to ensure organisations adhere to compliance and corporate governance issues," says Helen Constantinides, practice lead: data centre and storage at Sun Microsystems sub-Saharan Africa.
The new UltraSPARC IV processor can be utilised in conjunction with previous UltraSPARC III and IV processors, which increases the product's value proposition and enhances overall price/performance.
"Providing users with technology innovation and the best price/performance centred on UltraSPARC processor-based servers will help to increase application performance in the data centre.
"The upgraded servers will be compatible with the latest version of Solaris in order to take full advantage of all its new features and functionality, while supporting existing versions to ensure customers' investments are protected," she concludes.
