For a limited period, Sun Microsystems SA is giving businesses an opportunity to upgrade to its most recent hardware at reduced cost by offering a trade-in of up to 15% on selected previous generation Sun servers. In addition to trade-in offers, the company is also offering reductions on the purchase price of new servers, including the Sun Fire V440 four-way machine.
According to Tertius Bezuidenhout, national systems engineer manager at Sun Microsystems SA, the company is working to decrease the cost of the technology that supports business by introducing innovative purchase and pricing options. "With the Cool Offers campaign, we are giving local businesses a good opportunity to boost their business technology performance at highly affordable rates," he says.
Under the terms of the Cool Offers promotion, trade-in allowances of up to 15% are available on the Sun Fire V880, up to 10% on the Sun Fire V480 server and up to 8% on the Sun Fire V210/V240. "This puts server upgrades well within the reach of cost-conscious organisations," he adds.
Previous generation servers that qualify for trade-in against new machines include the Sun Enterprise 450, Enterprise 420R, Enterprise 250, Enterprise 220R and the Ultra 60 and 80 machines.
"Performance gains from such upgrades are significant: for example, the V880 offers more than three times the performance of the Enterprise 3500 at less than two-thirds the price," notes Bezuidenhout.
For its part, the Sun Fire V480 rack-optimised server also delivers triple the performance at two-thirds the price of its predecessor, the Enterprise 420R.
Cool Offers don't end there: Sun Fire V440 quad-processor machine, which set a new price/performance record by exceeding the existing benchmark by 26%, is available at less than a third of the price of the 420R.
Sun is also providing access to its data-centre reliability for entry-level server buyers, with the Sun Fire V250 available at PC prices. Other new-generation servers such as the Intel-based V60x and V65x machines are also available at highly competitive prices during the Cool Offers campaign.
The Cool Offers promotion is valid until 31 March 2004.
