Sun, ICL and InterSystems demonstrate advantages of multidimensional database for Java developers

Johannesburg, 13 Mar 2003

Since its introduction by Sun Microsystems in 1995, Java has become pervasive and one of the world's most popular technologies for Web development.

Sun Microsystems, ICL and InterSystems are to host an event at Gallagher Estate on 19 March showcasing the advantages of Java development on a multidimensional database.

Among the challenges facing Java developers, the need to connect Java applications to a persistent data store is vital. This is because linking to a traditional relational database often requires tedious manual coding of SQL (Structured Query Language) commands according to the JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) protocol.

At the Java development seminar, delegates will learn how to easily connect to InterSystems' Cach'e, an object-oriented, multidimensional database.

As Cach'e offers three different ways of connecting to Java, it is the ideal high-performance database for Java applications. Cach'e data can be accessed with SQL via JDBC, and Cach'e classes can be projected automatically as Java classes or as Enterprise Java Beans, allowing developers to gain data persistence without tedious coding.

"If your applications require a dash of speed, this seminar will demonstrate the benefits of combining performance hardware with the world's fastest database engine," says Jan Dry, regional technology and solutions manager at Sun Microsystems SA.

Details of the event are:
