Sun Microsystems' global service provider roadshow in South Africa

Johannesburg, 26 Jan 2000

With the rapid IT industry shift globally to the Service Provider (SP) model, Sun Microsystems is running the South African leg of its worldwide Service Provider.com roadshow in February.

Sun's ServiceProvider.com initiative addresses not only SPs but the entire SP community, (systems integrators, value-added resellers, independent software vendors, application service providers and developers) and this has been instrumental to its success.

The local roadshow, which takes place on 14 February 2000 in Johannesburg and 16 February in Cape Town, focuses on issues faced by the SP community including new industry directions, the ASP (Application Service Provider) marketplace, how to become an SP, integration services, and how Sun is helping service providers. The event will also include presentations from industry analysts and customer testimonials.

"We believe that by outsourcing their IT infrastructure, companies have an unprecedented opportunity to better costs, reduce dependence on hard-to-find skill sets, and focus on core business activities," says Willem Coetsee, sales manager: telecommunications for Sun Microsystems SA .

"Today's service providers are focused on helping customers keep pace with technology and providing economies of scale needed to make an presence practical for companies of all sizes. As the company who put the dot in .com, Sun Microsystems continues to drive the rapid industry shift towards the SP model, through the industry's most compelling end-to-end solution set of products, business practices and services," adds Coetsee.
