The Sun Microsystems Volume Product Reseller (VPR) programme has gone live. Today is the first trading day following the highly successful launch of the programme in June and July.
The VPR programme is a structured programme, which aims to enable and grow a predetermined number of SMB resellers that can focus on Sun Microsystems' new and comprehensive entry-level product line and take it to market in the most effective manner. The new range of products and services do not compromise Sun Microsystems' reputation for reliability and performance.
The VPR programme is supported by the Associate Vendor Network including Microsoft, Symantec, Oracle and Veritas, the leading software partners in the country, and AMD, which brings the affordable 64-bit performance to the x86 market.
Jos Nickmans, channel manager at Sun Microsystems sub-Saharan Africa, says the programme has generated an enormous amount of interest.
"As indicated during our launch events titled 'Defining Moments', we are only prepared to award 100 South African reseller licences to avoid unnecessary conflicts while adequately addressing the needs of the SMB market. We had hundreds of applications and have already appointed 62 new resellers nationwide. Applications are still welcome," he says.
Horizon, Sun's channel development provider for the sub-Saharan African region, will provide stock holding facilities, countrywide distribution, technical assistance, foreign exchange management, and training to the newly appointed reseller base.
"The success of the Volume Product Reseller trading programme in the SMB market is critical to our strategic business objectives," he says.
Having recognised the importance of marketing and sales support for its reseller, Sun, Horizon and their associate vendor partners have initiated a marketing programme that will drive demand for the volume product range.
The VPR programme was launched in Johannesburg on 29 June, in Cape Town on 1 July, and in Durban on 8 July.
