Sun partners with PeopleSoft to deliver true Internet-ready CRM solution

Johannesburg, 24 Apr 2001

Sun Microsystems and PeopleSoft have announced a strategic alliance to deliver a scalable, Internet-ready customer relationship management (CRM) solution to better serve the communications and brokerage industries.

The announcement highlights Sun as a preferred platform for CRM in the communications and brokerage industries.

"This strategy is in line with Sun's vision of making technology transparent to the end-user by integrating hardware and software into a single seamless environment," says Stefano Mattiello, MD at Sun Microsystems in SA.

"As PeopleSoft provides a leading CRM solution for establishing the integrated customer, employee and supplier relationships, the solution reduces complexity, increases availability and delivers true scalability," says Mattiello.

The global alliance will offer PeopleSoft's integrated enterprise CRM solution on Sun's Solaris 8 Operating Environment (OE) and Java technology-based platforms. Sun and PeopleSoft will engage in joint sales, services and go-to-market activities.

PeopleSoft CRM leveraging Java technology on Sun Enterprise Servers is designed to provide customers with scalability and functionality which, in turn, aims to assist companies in getting closer to their customers in order to manage more profitable relationships.

Jan Coetzee, PeopleSoft SA MD says PeopleSoft CRM running on Sun's high-performance Enterprise Servers and Sun StorEdge platforms provides one of the industry's most reliable, available and scalable CRM solutions. "Sun and PeopleSoft are focused on enabling brokerages and communications companies to reduce implementation time, lower total cost of ownership, ease integration and improve customer service, retention and profitability," he explains.

The joint solution will allow communications companies - including wireless, broadband, and satellite providers - to differentiate themselves with faster product launches, superior customer information and more effective targeted marketing.

According to Coetzee, PeopleSoft CRM will be the first e-Business application to fully integrate front and back office departments and internal processes with customers, suppliers and employees.

Companies choosing this secure solution can look forward to being able to better manage the complete customer lifecycle - beginning with initial contact and continuing through the sales cycle, the order and billing process, product delivery and service and support.

The companies will also collaborate on engineering efforts and work with customers in Sun's iForce Ready Centre locations to create proof of concepts and develop architecture blueprints in an enterprise lab environment. PeopleSoft Consulting, Sun Professional Services and leading system integrators will provide skilled, rapid and cost-effective implementations.

PeopleSoft CRM on the Sun Solaris platform is available immediately and will leverage PeopleSoft's and Sun's strengths in North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia/Pacific, Japan and Africa.
