Sun Microsystems SA has appointed IT industry veteran Inana Nkanza as managing director. Nkanza takes up the post with immediate effect.
His role will be to run the local operation, oversee Sun's refocus on its partners and increasing work with open source technologies.
Nkanza has been in the local IT industry since 1991 when he started with Q-Data, under Piet Den Boer.
He has also worked for Computer Associates, Software Futures, CCH and MGX. In 2002 he left MGX to start his own company before selling it to a listed competitor.
"The challenge that I took the job for was to improve Sun brand awareness in our area," said Nkanza. "Also I want to take Sun to another level in this country, a level which reflects the global brand strength of the company; to move it from a hardware and technology provider to serious player in the infrastructure business."
"Inana has vast experience in the local industry," said Tom Pegrum, regional director of Sun for sub-Saharan Africa. "We look forward to his expertise."
