Sun Tech heads to SA

Johannesburg, 11 Jan 2008

Sun Microsystems' worldwide developer conference, Sun Tech Days, has been expanded to a 15-city world tour, including a leg in SA.

The conference will take place from 11 to 13 March and is the second time it will be held in SA. Sun Sub-Saharan Africa marketing manager Claire Alexander says the programme was expanded to accommodate the 56 000 Java developers in SA.

"It is evident that our local developer community is interested in Sun technologies and further developing their expertise," she says.

This year's South African keynote speaker is Jeff Jackson, Sun's VP for engineering, managing the Solaris operating systems, clustering, database and storage software. AMD and Intel will sponsor the local leg of the tour.

"The programme will also include several advanced development topics to ensure our local developers have an opportunity to engage with key experts and gain much benefit from the conference. We want to give developers a better understanding of Sun's technologies, solutions, products and the roadmaps that drive their innovation," says Alexander.

The company says Sun Tech Days content includes detailed technical information, hands-on training, demonstrations and examples of real-world solutions. Alexander says topics that have been identified as relevant for the local market include Java, Solaris, NetBeans, OpenSolaris, development tools and Web 2.0.

Registration is now live at www.suntechdays.co.za.
