Billion's new 2072 HomePlug AV 200 Ethernet Bridge with AC Pass Through now enables South African users to extend the capabilities of their home network by transferring data, voice, video, audio or broadband Internet at up to 200 megabits per second (Mbps) with their existing power lines.
Available from Nology, a distributing agent of broadband and networking products, the Ethernet Bridge can be used to bridge any Ethernet device such as modems, routers and PCs, enabling users to share network access via existing in-home power lines.
"One of the key differentiators of the Billion Ethernet bridge is its ease-of-use and installation. For one, home users don't have to install expensive Ethernet cables throughout their home networks. Indeed it is as easy as simply plugging in your networking devices, pressing the Sync button on the bridge, and using your home's electrical wiring to enjoy the benefits that come with Ethernet communications, explains Pierre Holtzhausen, channel manager at Nology.
"The bridge is not only limited to wired communications. By installing a wireless access point, or using your WiFi-enabled modem, you can also set up a wireless network by again using your bridge and existing power lines."
Featuring the latest evolution in the HomePlug AV standard, AV 200, the bridge supports data speeds of up to 200Mbps, which is ideal for high-definition home networks and multimedia. Indeed, users can easily set up a data network - accessible through a power socket - and share bandwidth consuming applications such as online games.
The 2072 HomePlug AV 200 also features AC Pass Through, an electrical power outlet with noise filter. Apart from offering users an additional power extension, which is particularly handy if plug points are limited, it alleviates noise as a result of other appliances also using power lines as a communication medium.
Furthermore, the Ethernet bridge supports noise-immune transmissions, even in the event an electronic device is switched on or light turned off, latency-sensitive applications such as multimedia or video will not be impacted. The device forms a buffer of sorts, which means sudden appliance additions and so forth will not impact the line.
The above is further enhanced by QOS (Quality of Service), which guarantees transmission quality by prioritising data. The 2072 automatically recognises the bandwidth needs of voice and video applications or online gaming.
QOS also guarantees clear, instant transmission of voice data, even when other applications are running on the network at the same time.
The Billion 2072 automatically detects its Ethernet connection. Therefore, if no Ethernet device is used, it will automatically go into sleep mode, which cuts power consumption by at least 60%, increasing energy efficiency and saving money on your electricity bill.
