Supported Software announces details of first OS/390-Centric TCP/IP product to manage non-OS/390 stacks and devices

Johannesburg, 08 Feb 2001

As companies Web-enable existing legacy applications and build new e-business applications, the reliance on TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) - the protocol suite developed for Internet connectivity and a standard technology supporting e-business infrastructures - is increasing along with the need for complete tools.

Steve Ware, Systems Coordinator, Northeast Regional Center at the University of Florida says, "The growth of TCP/IP is driving the overall management market. As organisations Web-enable their existing OS/390-based legacy applications, the value of OS/390-based TCP/IP management and monitoring applications is increasing significantly."

To cater for this market trend, infrastructure optimisation company Supported Software, part of Datacentrix Holdings, has released details of TMON for TCP/IP, the newest product in Landmark's successful line of TMON systems management and performance software.

TMON for TCP/IP is a complete tool to monitor and manage the availability of network devices and overall network performance.

Released internationally in December, Landmark TMON for TCP/IP provides data centre managers, systems programmers, network engineering administrators, and operations personnel detailed insight into critical resources impacting TCP/IP network performance.

The single-point solution monitors TCP/IP networks in real-time, analyses resource utilisation and contention, and identifies and corrects performance anomalies before thresholds are exceeded. "TMON for TCP/IP identifies network bottlenecks, implementation problems and determines the impact the network has on business applications," explains Supported Software MD Leon Theron.

It extends beyond the OS/390 environment to monitor and manage non-OS/390 TCP/IP stacks and Cisco routers, while also providing visibility into OS/390 Sub-systems, applications, and resources that impact the OS/390 TCP/IP stack. "The fact that it is the only OS/390-centric TCP/IP product that monitors and manages non-OS/390 stacks and devices, makes it the only complete enterprise-wide TCP/IP monitor," emphasises Theron.

Landmark TMON for TCP/IP:

Reduces costs and increases productivity of network administrators and data centre managers by rapidly pinpointing problems and root causes throughout the entire network using conditional monitoring/alarming across SNMP and non-SNMP entities.

Improves responsiveness by identifying performance problems, bottlenecks, and availability issues that impact business operations via monitor of all resources impacting TCP/IP networks, including OS/390 subsystems and applications.

Enhances performance by providing management and insight into the access of critical network resources.
