Nearly two million South Africans use the Internet on a daily basis but to date no official database of user demographics exists. myZone.co.za, the latest dot co.za to hit the SA streets, launched this month to fill this gap providing benefits to both online advertisers and Internet surfers.
MyZone.co.za is one of the first online loyalty programmes to launch in South Africa and aims to reward users with points when they respond to email marketing messages and surveys. These points can be redeemed for books, music, small appliances and gift vouchers. An active member can earn his/ her first reward within three months.
Says Eve Dmochowska (Eve D), co-founder of myZone.co.za: "One of the most fundamental standpoints of operating in the electronic economy is the changing role of marketing. Advertisers are now able to carefully target formulated email campaigns to a desired audience, while the Net user is assured of receiving relevant, quality emails of a monitored quantity. This process affords marketers the opportunity to develop a business relationship with a specific audience resulting in more effective marketing campaigns."
Local marketers are already seeing a change in traditional marketing methods, favouring online campaigns as they can cost up to 90% less than conventional campaigns while reaching a more defined market.
Says Jon Quirk, co-founder of myZone.co.za: "myZone.co.za is an online marketing environment that offers a genuine benefit to the user whereby privacy and security are respected. We carefully monitor the number of emails received by the user, limiting them to three per week."
